Administrative subdivision of Madagascar

The country is divided into six (6) Autonomous Provinces, themselves subdivided into twenty-two (22) Regions, one hundred and nineteen (119) Districts and around one thousand five hundred and seventy-nine (1,579) Communes. These urban and rural Communes are made up of about seventeen thousand four hundred and eighty-five (17,485) Fokontany or Areas. (Source: INSTAT/March 2010)
