Behaving with impunity away from home is a thing of the past. Internationally enforced laws now mean that any person can be prosecuted at home for child sex crimes committed abroad.
Any person who sexually abuses a child under 18 will be prosecuted in Madagascar or in his/her home country.
In Madagascar, outrages against children, corruption of minors, rape or attempted rape, and production of pornographic material featuring children all receive heavy punishment. Sentences range from hard labour to life imprisonment.
Sentences range from 5 to 10 years' imprisonment and as much as 15 to 20 year's hard labour if the sexual act was committed in respect of a child under 15 years of age. See Articles 331 and 332 of the Malagasy Criminal Code.
