Telecommunication in Madagascar

The Malagasy postal service is rather reliable although its infrastructures seem old. Letters and postcards reach its destination without any problem. However, letters can be sent and stamps purchased only in a Post office. You should not use the antiques letter-boxes in the street which are currently no longer in use.

The telephone service has improved since this sector was liberalized. Phone boxes are available everywhere in any large city to facilitate communication in the country. Nowadays, the street is swarming with public pay phones which provide various services at a moderate price. They are recognizable by their parasols and the poster CELTEL and ORANGE CALLS. Currently the price varies between 400 Ar and 500 Ar per minute for a local call for the same telecommunications company.
